Siemens Corporate Technology (CT) develop hardware and software systems and solutions, and a broad range of services for the entire field of information and communication technologies, acting as main driver of innovation inside Siemens. SIEMENS CT Romania, with over 250 engineers and researchers is a Romanian branch of these activities. CT has an extensive expertise and experience in all areas of software development, working for a large variety of sectors like communications, energy, automotive and industrial manufacturing or services to mention but a few. Current research capacity and expertise of the department in Brasov (acting inside Siemens SRL, Romanian house company of Siemens) encompasses fields like Constraint Based Configurations and Schedulers, Complex Event Processing, Medical Informatics, Intelligent Networks, Sensor Networks, Data Acquisition Architectures and Future Internet Technologies, and also Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) design and verification, PCB design and implementation and full capabilities to do Hardware, Software and Mechanic co-designed solutions. The department acts at the global scale in Siemens Corporate Technology division, core technological house of the corporation. Due to this unique position, the group contributes in the large mesh of knowledge of CT experts, with large access to the EU funded projects where Siemens CT already contributes. From the local group perspective, the expertise offered is centred around some main research cores: Knowledge based systems (with a strong focus on Constraints Based Systems and the mix with Semantic technologies), Event Processing and Event Driven Architectures, Multi-Agent Systems, Big Data analytics, Cloud Computing and Networking technologies,  embedded systems, Intelligent Energy Grid Management or Cities Infrastructures.


Main tasks to be carried on within the project

From a technical standpoint, SIEMENS will be in charge of design (WP1) and development (WP2) of the UNCAP BOX core services as well as for the development of the UNCAP box connector to building automation systems via KNX standard. Further contribution is also expected to exploitation activities, especially in terms of industrial exploitation of results of UNCAP within the care domain through SIEMENS international network.

How the profile matches with the tasks assigned and previous experience in relevant projects

SIEMENS will participate in the project with resources from the Corporate Technology department. Therefore, the expertise offered is centred around some main research cores: Knowledge based systems, Event Processing, embedded systems and hardware/software co- design, to name but a few. All those competences are actively used in businesses like Railway, road management, Healthcare, Enterprise Automation and Logistics, Smart Grids or Automotive applications. In the same time Siemens has participated as industrial partner in National and EU projects: in area of virtual reality for medical simulation, energy management, global computing, hospital information systems, at national level, or Future Internet (4WARD, IP in FP7) covering activities like information and service modelling area, and how Future Internet concepts fit current standards at application level for flexible designs around control protocols like e.g.: OPC-UA. SIEMENS is and has been involved in several EC-funded projects such as iCORE, IOT.est, Mobile.Old, NITICS, COSMOS and CityPulse.
